Chantel Davis Bass

In Memory of Chantel Davis Bass

This page is dedicated to Chantel Davis Bass (November 1, 1979 - January 19, 2020), a woman of compassion, faith, and admirable commitment to her career.

For over 20 years, Chantel served as a core member of the Pepper Tree Steaks N’ Wines family, helping to build the business with her dedication and commitment to hard work. Eight of those years were spent as a Kitchen Prep Worker, developing some of Pepper Tree’s classic recipes, shared from her mother’s kitchen. Once she graduated from Alabama State University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Education, she became our General Manager and Marketing Director, where she exhibited exemplary performance marked by the personal connections made with our customers, her vast knowledge of wine, and increasing annual sales. In 2017, she was named Catering Director and, as a result, the Catering Department has grown tremendously and now offers an array of gourmet options from small office parties to large weddings and corporate events.

The Pepper Tree family will remember Chantel for her infectious laughs and smiles, which she did not hesitate to share with staff or customers. Chantel enjoyed learning about others’ lives and celebrating special moments. She never failed to make someone feel included and never backed down from a challenge. When the going got tough, Chantel got going.
Chantel adored her family, especially her son, L.J., and her husband, Drew. To her son, her pride and joy, she left behind a legacy of boundless love and an impeccable work ethic. Being his mother was her greatest honor and she always maintained that there was absolutely nothing L.J. could not achieve when he put his mind to it.

With her husband, Drew, she built a marriage of pure devotion and admiration. Having the chance to marry and build a life with her soulmate and best friend was a blessing she thanked the Lord for every day.

Chantel Davis Bass gave the best of herself in everything she did. She exemplified strength, compassion, and conviction -- always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to those in need. She overcame personal struggles and illnesses that would cause many to give up, but she always chose to put her faith in the Lord and herself and carried on.

Those of us left behind know that when times get hard and we feel as though we cannot continue, we will look back to Chantel and remember that she believes in us all and we will find the strength to carry on.

Thank you, Chantel, for your love, your kind heart, and for being a role model for humanity.

We will miss you more than you could ever know!
